Goodman Fielder hosts or participates in a range of different events to help raise money for charities. While it provides donations and support to a number of different charities, the company focuses mainly on two organisations, Foodbank and Open Family Australia.
Goodman Fielder first began its partnership with Open Family Australia (OFA) in 2009. Their goal was to help establish a nutrition, outreach, support and health (NOSH) program to support underprivileged youth in Western Sydney. The two organisations worked together to provide a NOSH van which is fitted with equipment to provide healthy meals to disadvantaged young people, as well as a nurse who helps to provide support and health advice.
Goodman Fielder and OFA have also raised money to establish another NOSH program in Melbourne.
Some examples of Goodman Fielder’s involvement with OFA include organising a fun day at Palm Beach for some of the underprivileged young people OFA supports (with the objective of providing them with the opportunity to do something they would not usually be able to do), packing Christmas hampers and supporting employee fundraising events to help raise money for OFA. Employees also host a BBQ to get to know the youths OFA works with and learn more about the programs and support provided by OFA.
Goodman Fielder has been working with Foodbank, one of the largest hunger relief organisations in Australia, for over 10 years. Some of the donations Goodman Fielder makes to Foodbank include a guaranteed supply of leftover bread from the factory, regular assorted grocery products and a monthly supply of frozen pastries.
In November, 2012 Goodman Fielder committed to donate a loaf of bread to Foodbank for every Helga’s or Wonder White loaf purchased during the period leading up to Christmas. The campaign lasted from 21 November to 18 December, with a target of up to 3 million loaves to be donated to meet Foodbank requirements over the next eighteen month period.
The company’s New Zealand business also established a programme called Goodman Fielder Cares, which includes annual donations of 180 000 fresh loaves of bread, ongoing support for the charitable activities of its staff, and the establishment of a charitable trust, with grants to selected organisations funded through donations from employees matched dollar for dollar by the company.
During the 2012 financial year, Goodman Fielder’s total cash and product donations to charitable organisations were approximately $2.7 million.
